Alyssa Gillespie is an independent literary scholar and translator from Ukrainian and Russian. Her new translation of Taras Shevchenko’s long poem “The Caucasus” appeared in Literary Hub in November 2022; her collection of Marina Tsvetaeva’s verse in English, for which she received an NEA translation fellowship, is forthcoming from Northwestern University Press and Curbstone Books. She is currently translating Anatolii Dimarov’s (1922-2014) novel And There Will Be People (1964-68) for the Harvard Library of Ukrainian Literature book series (HURI). The mother of five adult children, she lives in Midcoast Maine (USA) with her cat, Timur.
