Sarah D. Phillips is an anthropologist who has studied Ukrainian culture and society for 30 years. Phillips is the author of three monographs: Women's Social Activism in the New Ukraine (Indiana U Press, 2008), Disability and Mobile Citizenship in Postsocialist Ukraine (Indiana U Press, 2010), and Kurt Vonnegut in the USSR (Bloomsbury Academic, 2026).
Her published journal articles about Ukraine cover themes of gender, health, disability, foodways, folk healing, HIV, drug use, and migration. Engaging deeply with translation studies for her latest book project (Kurt Vonnegut in the USSR), Phillips is inspired to begin her own translation journey.
