Uilleam Blacker is a scholar and translator of Ukrainian literature based at University College London. He has translated the work of more than a dozen Ukrainian authors and his translations have been published in The Guardian, Words Without Borders, Modern Poetry in Translation, PN Review, White Review, and others. His translations include Oleg Sentsov’s Life Went On Anyway (Deep Vellum, 2019), Taras Prokhasko’s The Unsimple (in Earth Gods: Writings from before the War, Harvard, 2025) and Mike Yohansen’s The Learned Dr Leonardo’s Journey to the Switzerland of Slobozhanshchyna with his Future Lover, the Beautiful Alceste (Harvard, forthcoming).
He is currently working on a volume of Iryna Shuvalova’s poetry. He is author of Memory, the City and the Legacy of World War II in East Central Europe (Routledge, 2019), and his book The City in the Steppe is under contract with Yale University Press.
