Ksenia Maryniak

​Raised in Alberta, Ksenia completed her undergraduate degree at Carleton University. She worked as office manager and then staff editor at the English-language Encyclopedia of Ukraine (vols. 3–5, U of Toronto P, 1993). In 1993–2002 Ksenia lived in Ukraine, and in 1998 she was the first foreign student to graduate with an MA at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. In 2003, she began working as managing editor for the Baikal Archaeology Project (UAlberta's Dept. of Anthropology & CCI Press) and, later, as journal manager for Canadian Studies in Population (Dept. of Sociology). Previously attested by the Department of the Secretary of State (1993), Ksenia became a certified UK–EN translator in 2007 and today is an adjudicator of candidate certification exams. She has collaborated on numerous book publishing projects. In 2016, Ksenia returned to CIUS as an editor. In 2021 she was awarded a Translated Book Award and two translation-in-progress grants in the inaugural cycle of the Peterson Literary Fund.

Ksenia is planning on refining the final draft of her recently completed translation of Serhiy Synhaivsky's epic novel Doroha na Asmaru (working title: Peaceful Missions). She looks forward to discussing cultural and linguistic nuances in literary translation with fellow residents, as well as one of her research interests, transliteration issues.
